5 Problems that need remedies

Keop(kiai)

Balance

Striking Position(Surface)

Hands Up(in fighting stance)

Flexibility

Theories:

Keop - stress importance in class and teach more about, or assign homework to research

Balance - Kicking Drills in Class, Wall Kicks to without wall, Flamingo Stance Game, Sumo Game, Minor Back Stance Testing

Striking Position(Surface) - Use workbook for one each time at class, use in warm ups(call out name of surface and students execute technique with that part), written quizzes, Blast Master Body Shield for self correction

Hands Up - designate parent helper to be on Blocker duty throughout class, and anytime in fighting stance can hit them, Fighting Stance tests, Unless holding a large body shield have parents hold blockers to keep up hands.

Flexibility - Talk of importance, do one stretch each class at beginning and end, Do "rising kick" stretch in warm up and combine with hands up problem, designate a warm up and cool down area for before each class students can quietly work out, go over workbook section on stretches.

CostCo

hells yeah, got the costco membership and.. oh yeah and hooked up the JD household too, so now a whole bunch of people that need the ability to buy 100 lbs of rice and flour at a time can, and 100 lbs of cat food and litter... and 2000 years worth of calories for 5 people to eat within a month.

19.6.08

90.553

yeah that's the current retention rate for classes, hopefully some of the absences will get made up. Somehow I'm still 4 out of all, but 90% is the 3 week retention mark that I'm supposed to hit I think....

17.6.08

Well 5 is better than 2

except just before the last class 2 left, and then 1 left early in the last class, but I might have convinced his sister to come to classes when he comes which would be one more.

16.6.08

only 2

I HOPE tomorrow we have more, but today we only had 2 kids, I sent Albillar a message about pumping it at class, I hope he does.

If we just had 30 kids for even one day that would make it worth it, but as of now with 2 @ $115/wk that's not even enough for my salary let alone bldg rental and Jesse.

(425+8*40)*4+500=3,480/mo and that's if the sheet I saw said $500/month rental fee, we need 8 kid minimum per day per week. just to barely break even on cost.

but if one day with 30*$25=$750 then we would be okay with just two every other day or the avg 8 we had, unless rent is $500 a week.... then... we would need 30 kids two days a week. Which to be honest 30 kids two days a week would be awesome.

hmm... how to convince a caravan two days a week... Must remember to talk about it at Wednesday class that Ian goes two days a week, and maybe more if a trade off ride was offered... although he was expected today and wasn't there.

14.6.08

Empire Records

Can't remember if that was on the must see list, but I caught it the other day and it definitely is on my requirements for all to view at least once.

Also apparently the phrase:

"There are as many martial arts as their are martial artists."

got me cool points?!?

12.6.08

Talked to Hanshi Dan by himself

and without Derek there, he made more sense and seemed more sincere. He even offered to test me outside of Derek, which left an even better impression. His was more a good reason, such as sure no one can know you better than yourself, but you have to test yourself from time to time and you are overdue for an outside observer testing you.

So I decided to go ahead, but I told him I would leave the decision of Derek's being a part of the test up to him.

9.6.08

so much thought

and yet so little result on whether or not to go for the test with Derek and his Hanshi, from the school we are using this summer.

My brother gave the best advice, which is the usual, hit up straight, what is the purpose of offering me this....

Is the lack of ability to explain why I "should?" just b/c you want to offer more for me, or want more for you?

So far they have stated:

"You owe it to your instructor"
"You owe it to your students"
"You owe it to yourself"
"You owe it to martial arts"

But ()@*#&$% Americans don't understand rankings in their original intention. If Shogo (teaching) ranks have become ego trips should their be Shogo ranks?

What is the true benefit of me passing another test?

I have gained most of my true knowledge whilst this 2nd degree.

Knowledge and rank are not interchangeable, hence one of the reasons a Shogo ranking was devised to begin with.

They actually asked was it okay to be in college indefinitely and was that a fair trade?

I replied people do it and are fine, and if the school gets their money and you get the education you want, why not?

So I shall hit them up one at a time.. about some true intentions and do what works best, look deep within them to determine if they are being true or are attempting their own ego promotion through me. Because in reality a degree on your belt means nothing without the knowledge through training and application.

6.6.08

First Week Survived...

So far at least... I still have more paperwork, and more work tomorrow.

3.6.08

Based on Kids

Yes the Schedule is okay, but with an adaption to making Snack time not right after movie time, but just before "Character/SAFE Shield." Although the lesson plans are way to long for the alloted 30 minutes, but I just trail off where I do for the next part. Today was much better, kids are getting in the flow, and learning what flies and what doesn't with Jesse and Me.

2.6.08

First Day At Summer Camp

we were missing a few signed up kids, and I could tell Jessi was not expecting the long day, but other than that it went better than the worst expectation, but not as good as the best.

No Corporate Loyalty?

Really that's surprising?

I have a theory, how about those who show loyalty get loyalty. Corporate America has been dog eat dog for a long time, so why wouldn't "underlings" follow suit and do what is best for them not for the company. Of course theirs little to no loyalty in Corporations, every scandal of corporate gouging, embezzlement, gov't corruption, and more has made no one wish to follow a CEO into a room, let alone be loyal to the company that merely provides them income and no other sense of family or connection, but the grand dissatisfaction of no job security in a job that most hate to begin with.
