Porch chores

Took an hour today to sweep off the majority of the dirt on the back covered porch. Then, I went ahead and setup my striking post with mid and high rope wrappings. Took the opportunity to work out, which was probably a mistake in the heat, but that made the indoors water and air conditioner (that was out last night, but apparently only required two AAA batteries in the thermostat to come back to life) that much better.

I did realize about 1/2 way through my second pass that I had not only made a blister from sweeping so vigorously, but also had popped it when I noticed it was even there. Oh well, just a few layers of skin gone with that one.

One thing is for sure though, I definitely need to work on my shin kicks and back fist strikes more. Granted it was hot, and I had been outside for awhile, but those two were definitely the weakest of my striking post workout.

Knowledge For the Win!

While there is much to be desired at my new place. Today, I did wipe down from ceiling to floor all the walls and closet in my room. Also did the floors too. Three of the walls have wood paneling on them, and the floor is wood throughout the house. There was several spots with caked on issues, and I ended up using a scrub sponge instead of just a rag. This of course took off a protective layer of the wood, and when it dried, it was quite obvious throughout the room. Beforehand, I had purchased some Murphy's oil for cleaning wood all around, but I was using Lemon Lysol. Therefore, I had some Old English conditioner and after using that, just on the dry spots, you couldn't even tell I had to scrub those areas.

Now, my room (2 more bedrooms to go) at least feels clean. I made sure to wash my bedding during the process as well.

Afterwards, I hung up all three Japanese flags from my visits to the Emperor, my farewell poster from the movie theater, the signed Sweet Band O' Mine poster, the wind chime a student gifted me, the Chinese New Year ornament my friend Phong gave me, a DinĂ©  handmade necklace, and the lei from my friend Casey's wife.

Tomorrow, I have me mum's going away party at 6, but I hope to at least do a ceiling to floor in the bathroom, but really hope they bring out a new cabinet, window, and medicine cabinet before I do.

Manager? Not so much

While I was able to secure lodging for the next year, the manager is a bit of a misnomer. First, she didn't know the right gas company to call. Then, today, she didn't even have the time to meet to hand over the keys and do a walk through until 5:30 (for which I had to pay a full days rent), and she was late to that. We didn't even do a walk through. She gave me a paper and said to write everything that needed fixed down, and drop it at the office within 5 days. She almost left without giving me the second key, and the garage door opener (I had to remind her). She hadn't really inspected the home beforehand, as there were 3, yes 3, containers of used motor oil in the garage, and excess paint cans in different rooms.

I am sure my problems list will be quite full when I turn it into the office, but what really gets my goat is that she didn't know I had to sign up separately for trash services, nor that there weren't any trash cans on site. I now have to wait, likely, a week just to get bins to put my trash and recyclables into.

Not that the lease stating I needed to clean the gutters myself was outrageous, but the fact that I couldn't see an inch of guttering without a plant growing out of it, and full of dirt was.

I do not foresee this being a long lasting rental, but she did assure me that they have a whopping 500 properties, and she's been there since they had only 100.
