Successful Garage Sale

All thanks to brown people.

Creepy white guy... please never see me again.

Two lovely brown families bought just about all the big stuff yesterday and today.

Made $40 yesterday, and $34 today (doubt anyone will make the last 10 minutes)

Very nice, very little to head out with on the morrow to get the place cleaned up, and then the walk-through, I hope to schedule for Tuesday. That will be the end of that for me mum's place.

Glad to be moving forward

I've been able to help my buddy around the house nearly everyday so far. For that I'm glad. I wish I just had some more free time to hook him up with some better grub. Soon though I think I be able to have enough dough to go get a plethora of groceries, and then be able to cook up some good stuff for him.

Tonight, if I don't have to work, I might go to the Toadies show that the Dead Girls are opening for.

Now I'm a radical?

I was called a radical the other day, because I believe that people should be held responsible for their actions that may or may not be legal.

Ethically, I believe people should be held accountable for what may or may not constitute a crime.

There are many things that are "legal," but not necessarily ethical. Why then is it a radical idea that laws deemed by a body of persons to constitute guidelines for ethics, aren't necessarily all encompassing?

Another incident of the ridiculous lack of proper management

Today, I go to check my bank balance, as I have just enough to pay for gas this week, and lo and behold, the bank allowed a check to go through, again without the funds to cover it inside the bank.

Now, again I'm in the negative, but the catch is this check is for the crappy Condo Association dues check from JULY! They are just now cashing it.

The best part, now that I had enough to make it through this week, I can't get gas when I need to, because I went from just enough in the positive to negative $48, even after I have declined overdraft protection.

So, I guess tomorrow I get to spend without lunch going into a branch to talk to a manager about my continual problems with their not enforcing the policy I agreed to.

Also, I finally got my credit for 2 months ago with Lawrence Freenet on Wednesday, and then today, I get a bill without the credit displayed.

Really, is the record from Wednesday to Sunday that much to keep track of?

Speaking of poverty

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100911/ap_on_bi_ge/us_poverty_in_america

The article talks about how estimates are that the new figures to be released will show that the US has the highest poverty level since 1993, of 15%.

Which isn't unexpected when a "standard family unit" of 4 needs $21,756 and a single person with no health issues under 65 needs $11,161. Which, if we break that down is:

family single
$1,813 a month $930
$418 a week $215
$10.46 an hour $5.37

just to be at poverty. When averaged out that means you need to make $7.91 an hour to be at poverty. Therefore, our minimum wage should be $7.91, if we can all live at poverty with 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, jobs.

However, take an average home for a month in Kansas.

family single
$900 rent $350
$400 utilities$300
$250 transport$150
$300 food $200
--------------------
$1850 total $1000
--------------------
$37 short $70

That's considering you have your transportation paid for, and you are fairly frugal at the grocery store.

Is it really any wonder that we live in abject poverty?

That's right Smoochy!

"You can't change the world, but you can make a dent!"

I helped my brother out yesterday. Borrowed Rachel's phone, for about an hour sadly, and gave him bad news first about card, car, and other. Then, I gave him good news, working, finding a place to live, and other. Then, heard his woes of South Dakota for what was on the surface a person helping, to finding out she was poverty pimpin'.

Though, I did get to cheer him up with some jokes and some good feelings, as well as news.

Found out today that my buddy needs a roommate, and would be happy to have me move in. His mom recently died of cancer (3rd bout), and I have been checking in on him from time to time anyway. Plus, that meant, come to find out, that his dad needs help now being about the only income with the mortgage on the house he lives in. So, it should be a win-win. He just has to have his dad draw up some paperwork (dad's a little paranoid about legal stuff). So, all should be to the good soon.

Hopefully, I can continue to be in the black in my bank account at least, if not in my credit cards, and then perchance in October file the bankruptcy things. Though, it looks like my car payments will still be withdrawn, but at least my brother's won't be.

Go Brokaw?

what a very nice quote to start my day with.

I spent a lot of yesterday, of course, in training and working on relationship building, as well as understanding of touching/assisting/restraining without hurting.

Then, I found out that KU was looking for some positions that I could soon be qualified for, which they may not hire for until after I get my Bachelor's. They were looking for Physical Education teachers for different types of Physical Education, paying quite a bit per credit hour as well.

I did apply for 4 different positions through them: Programmer I, Phys Ed "Lecturer," Off-site Tutor, and part-time security guard. The hardest part was writing different cover letters to go with each of them. However, now I have a template downloaded to be able to fill out each time.

Today, I'm off to learn more to better myself, and hopefully make a difference in life of at least one person.

Very Nice 3 recommendation letters

I did get to see two of them, and the last one took more than the week it claims at the top, but it is very nice, and I have problems accepting such praise, but it is nice to know that at least on paper people care. Here's the last letter:

I spoke with James last week, and he told me of his interest in becoming a Student Ambassador. He asked if I would be able to recommend him, and, of course, I will.

James, as you might recall, was in my COLL148 class during his first session at DeVry. He was such an outstanding student, that I recommended him as an ESC Tutor upon his completion of the course. I know you've been pleased with his work in that department, but let me tell you a little about my observations of him.

Since COLL148, James has also been a student of mine in the Public Speaking course. In both classes, he seemed to quietly emerge very quickly as a leader amongst his peers. He does so individually by excelling with assignments given him, setting the bar high, which challenges other students to reach a little farther. He also does this when a part of a team. He is polite, gracious, always positive & upbeat. His attendance record is impeccable. He is a wonderful example of a critical thinker, using his intellect and excellent communication skills to work alone or in a group to effectively solve problems. Besides all this, I think he is creative and a very interesting person, and he can talk with people about virtually anything!

Anyway, I'm probably not telling you anything you don't know, but I did want to give my wholehearted support to James in his endeavor to become an Ambassador for DeVry. I believe DeVry University would truly benefit from his work in this capacity.

If there's anything else I need to do to help, please let me know.
