Continuing on

After a week of complaints, and a threatening summary email about how the shop in Houston destroyed my transmission, they called their insurance on Thursday to pay for the problem.

Their mechanic made it to the vehicle on Friday, and determined (as I already had) that the costs would be in excess of $5,000, meaning their policy was to turn it over to their total loss department for a decision. If the car was valued at less than $8,000, then they would declare a total loss, otherwise, they would pay for it, but it would take up to 5 days for that decision.

N.A.D.A. values a terrible 1975 914 at $8,400, and in the condition mine is in between $10,000 and $24,000.

Until their decision, I have a rental VW Jetta. Which, as the Porsche was a VW/Porsche co-build, I find hilarious. Now, I'll be able to continue on my way after teaching class this afternoon to Austin, TX to visit a buddy, and then to Albuquerque, NM.

The plus side, I have A/C, a working radio, and a bit more room. Down side, I'll have to come back to get the car, but oh well.
