ooooooooooo that smell

I wonder if there has ever been a scientific study as to why it is one of the only fluids that after washing the smell still remains. However, I am thinking that most bodily fluids are like that as when used by species to mark territory... I mean if a bobcat sprays a tree and all other bobcats stay away, how good would it be if after every rain he had to spray again?
